About the Author

I am a plant geek. That's a fact that cannot be denied by people who know me. That's why I've labeled myself as a plant watcher. It's not something I try to do, it just happens. It's an automated neural response that takes over similar to the way dogs will forsake all to chase a squirrel. My eyes just pass over some botanical characteristic which sends a message to my brain to ignore whatever else it is I'm doing and go look at that plant! It happens everywhere; while I'm driving, when I'm riding my bike, and walking past landscaped storefronts. Some people rush up to a shop window to read a sale flyer, I'll run to a planter to see just what that purple flower is.

This website was created in the hopes that there are more people out there like me.

So who am I, approximately? Well, I wasn't always a plant geek, but my mom was, so I think a lot of her knowledge got passed on to me via osmosis. My first job was working for a mail-order nursery and garden center; I've got about four years total of garden center retail experience. In 2005 I graduated from Illinois Central College with an associate's degree in Horticulture. After that I spent a year working for a general landscape contractor. Since 2006 I've been employed by a wholesale ornamental grass nursery as a grower, IPM coordinator, inventory manager, tech support guy, and "guy who does miscellaneous tasks".

Do I know everything about plants or consider myself an expert? Not by any stretch of the imagination! No, I'm just a plant enthusiast who wants to share cool plants with anyone who will pay attention.
