Here are some of my favorite online gardening resources. I hope they're as helpful to you as they have been to me:
North Carolina State University Home Garden Resources
This website contains anything anyone could possibly want to know about gardening in North Carolina. Native plants, invasive plants, plants for sun, shade, wet or dry; all the information is there. Not gardening in North Carolina? No problem, just search for your local state university extension service. Most states have similar information that's just as useful.
Dave's Garden: PlantFiles
Dave's Garden is a collection of multiple gardening websites, with user-submitted content. PlantFiles bills itself as the "largest plant database in the world". It's pretty handy if you're trying to search for something specific.
Dave's Garden: Garden Watchdog
If you're thinking about ordering any kind of plants from any kind of online or mail-order vendor, check out this website first. There's always a risk when buying plants sight unseen, so read a few vendor reviews before you place an order.
Van Berkum Nursery Perennial Plant Index
Van Berkum Nursery is a wholesale grower of herbaceous perennials that graciously share their knowledge with the average consumer. Take a look at their website to get a list of plants organized into a multitude of different categories. From plant size to flower color to growth requirements; just about everything you'd need to know is there
